Floods
Southwold's Red Cross Ambulance had been turned over in Ferry Road by
the weight of the shingle swept against it. The driver, Frank
Hurr, clambered out only to be swept off between the houses,
clinging to a timber door. He was washed right across the marshes, ending
up on Whin Hill on Southwold Common. Billy Eastaugh, his cousin, who had been in the
passenger seat, was more fortunate, managing to reach the beach safely. Cold, wet and shaken he was found by a local teacher who took off her fur coat and wrapped him in it,
